What every Leader needs to know–
1. Starts with you
2. Have the right players
3. Every player on the team has a key role
4. How to handle adversity
5. Keep your priorities in order
Starts with you
Personal Accountability is the number one enemy in the world today. We are all so quick to pass blame and shame onto others instead of ourselves. Every leader accepts responsibility. Real leaders lead by example. Strong leaders accept responsibility for his teammates to take the pressure away because they can handle the critics. This is why we have so few leaders in the world today. We need to look into the mirror and use the same amount of energy we use in passing blame back into making a positive difference in our lives!
Pick the right players
Have the right players for whatever you are trying to get accomplished. In all areas of your life and work you need a team. Know who you need around for certain goals or tasks. You can have different teams for different things. A strong leader can identify each person’s strengths and weaknesses and place them in various areas to become successful.
Every Player is Important
Leaders get the best out of their team. Real leaders show their peers, staff, players, and others how they care. They also show and make them feel important. Human beings will always perform at higher levels when they feel special or needed. An individual will never reach their full potential feeling down. People and organizations tend to only focus on the top level executives or the top income earners. It is everyone that makes a successful team. All the parts working together to become one great company or business.
How to handle adversity
Every leader will find themselves up against adversity and challenges throughout their journey or specific task. How you handle yourself in these times will determine your ability to lead. This will show how you can adjust or adapt. True leaders can adapt and change whenever it is necessary. How do you act when trouble lies ahead? How do your players act when there is a problem? All of us are happy when things are great; that’s not the problem. The main challenge is acting appropriately when bad things happen. Adapting and changing when bad things are about to happen is a key role in leadership. If it has already happened then your ability to move on and correct the problem will dictate your success.
Keep your priorities in order
Every leader needs to always be doing the important things. I have a great friend, leader, and business partner that occasionally asks me if I am doing what is important or what is urgent. I feel we all need to ask ourselves this question when we get busy.
Staying busy and getting nothing done is bad leadership. I find certain days are so busy that the day flew by and I did not get half of my main task completed. Has this ever happend to you? You must have your priorities for the day and each task identified so you can put those items first and do not get off track.
